Omaha man accused of stealing money from bowling alley investors confesses

PLATTSMOUTH, Nebraska (WOWT) – An Omaha man entered into a felony plea agreement Monday after being accused of stealing money from investors in a bowling alley.

Steven Sempeck, 61, pleaded no contest to one count of theft by deception. According to Cass County court documents filed in October, Sempeck stole money from two people who thought they were investing in a bowling alley in Bellevue, when in reality the money was used to operate another bowling alley Sempeck already owned in Beatrice.

Sempeck was accused of amassing over $55,000 in investments in The Alley, the Bellevue store that Sempeck managed at the time.

Upon examining Sempeck's financial records, authorities found that no payments had been made to The Alley and that the money had been spent on operating another bowling alley in southeastern Nebraska that Sempeck himself owned, as well as on other personal expenses.

Sempeck also previously owned a bowling alley in Elkhorn, which abruptly closed its doors in 2018.
