Fan favorite Boban Marjanović reportedly leaves the NBA to play in Turkey

Fan favorite Boban Marjanović is leaving the NBA to play for Fenerbahce in the Euroleague in Turkey, Euroshoops and ESPN report.

No information was given about the terms of Marjanović’s contract with the Turkish team.

Marjanović, 36, previously played nine NBA seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets, spending the last two seasons in Houston.

Marjanović, a 7-4 center, has played in a limited capacity at each of his NBA stops. In his 331 games played, he started 25 times and averaged 5.5 points and 3.6 rebounds in 8.7 minutes per game. In just 14 appearances with the Rockets last season, he played 5.1 minutes per game. The Houston Chronicle reports that Marjanović was not in the team's plans for next season.

Marjanović endeared himself to fans across the league with his sense of humor and outgoing personality to match his greatness on the court. In the final regular-season game against his former Clippers, Marjanović intentionally missed the second of two free throws late in the game to spark a promotion for free chicken sandwiches, much to the delight of spectators and commentators.

He made a cameo appearance as a villain in the action film series “John Wick”, where he got into a fight with the title character played by Keanu Reeves.

Marjanović is from Serbia and played several seasons in European leagues before joining Spurs in 2015. From 2013 to 2015, he was three-time MVP of the Serbian Super League.
