Two students charged with separate incidents involving threats at school

DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) – A high school student and a middle school student have been charged in two separate incidents involving threats made at Danville Public Schools.

The Danville Police Department Safety Officer was notified of a threatening message written in a restroom at George Washington High School on Monday, September 16. Police immediately responded with members of the Bureau of Investigation.

According to Danville police, a photo showing the threat at the high school was circulated on social media platforms, leading to further threats and suggesting possible violence at schools with the intent of forcing school closures.

Danville police and the Bureau of Investigation investigated each reported threat to determine the authenticity and identity of those involved. The threats to safety at Danville Public Schools were deemed not credible, according to police.

A 16-year-old George Washington High School student was charged with threatening death or bodily harm to anyone on school property. An arrest warrant was issued. Investigators concluded the student was angry with school employees and no threat to a student was credible, police said.

A 12-year-old student at Bonner Middle School was charged with threatening to bomb or otherwise damage buildings, as well as making false statements endangering such buildings and a juvenile petition was filed. Investigators concluded that the student never intended to harm anyone but wanted to continue the trend of making threats within schools in an effort to get the schools closed, police said.
