Man allegedly shot his neighbor and a 7-year-old child during a party in a house on the West Side

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police have arrested a man accused of shooting a 7-year-old girl and her father during a boxing party at a West Side home.

The shooting occurred just before 1 a.m. Sunday in the 9700 block of Bratton Drive, near Marbach Road.

According to police, two people, a 31-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, were involved in a domestic dispute at the party, after which the woman called for help.

The suspect, 24-year-old John Alderete, intervened and an altercation ensued with the 31-year-old man, police said.

Alderete pulled out a gun and fired a shot in the direction of the 31-year-old man, who police said was his neighbor.

The bullet hit the 31-year-old man in the arm and accidentally hit the girl in the chest, the SAPD said.

The girl was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, police said. The 31-year-old man was also taken to the hospital for further treatment.

Alderete was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, police said.
