Man arrested after chase leads to fatal crash in Colerain Township

A man was arrested after he crashed into a vehicle while fleeing from police, resulting in the death of another person. According to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, it happened around 5 p.m. on Monday when a corporal with the HCSO pursued a vehicle, whose license plate was secured by a warrant, through northbound Hamilton Avenue near I-275 in Colerain Township. Officials said the pursuit lasted about 1 minute and 35 seconds and covered a distance of about 1.6 miles. During the pursuit, the suspect's vehicle sideswiped another vehicle and then crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of W. Kemper Rd. and Pippin Rd., resulting in the death of the vehicle's driver. The crash victim was identified as 72-year-old Ricky Mills. The suspect, 33-year-old Khalid James, was seriously injured in the crash and was under the supervision of officials at the hospital. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is in charge of investigating the chase and the Colerain Township Police Department is in charge of investigating the crash and subsequent charges, the HCSO said.

According to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, it happened around 5 p.m. Monday when an HCSO corporal pursued a vehicle with a warrant on its license plate northbound on Hamilton Avenue near I-275 in Colerain Township.

According to officials, the pursuit lasted about 1 minute and 35 seconds and covered a distance of about 2.5 kilometers.

During the pursuit, the suspect's vehicle sideswiped another vehicle and then struck another vehicle at the intersection of W. Kemper Rd. and Pippin Rd., resulting in the death of the driver of that vehicle.

The accident victim was identified as 72-year-old Ricky Mills.

The suspect, 33-year-old Khalid James, was seriously injured in the accident and was under the supervision of officers during his hospital stay.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is investigating the chase, and Colerain Township police are in charge of the accident investigation and subsequent charging, the HCSO said.
