Kappy's Subs will reopen after lease is fulfilled

After fans heard that Maitland staple Kappy's Subs would be closing, they flocked to the popular eatery to say one final goodbye. But all that love will now help Kappy's stay open after more than 50 years in Central Florida. “Thank you everyone for your support,” the owners said on Facebook. “We truly could not have saved Kappy's without the love of our community. We will reopen on Monday, September 23rd.” Kappy's said the closure was due to an inability to reach an agreement on a lease renewal — but that appears to have changed, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Before the news that Kappy's Subs would remain open, chef Adam Milsom said, “It has been an absolute honor for me and my family to serve this community for the past 52 years. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has walked through our doors during our time of service and will miss being able to feed you all each day.” Customers lined up outside the restaurant on the corner of Sybelia and North Orlando Avenues in Maitland on Monday afternoon and again on Tuesday following the announcement. The restaurant's menu, which includes burgers, subs, fries, hot dogs and more, has filled residents with joy and memories over the years. “I've been going to Kappy's since I was probably five years old. I would sit there with my dad after sports practice. It's just a local spot in Maitland. We hate to see it close,” said Brad Downing. News of the closure was announced Sept. 9 via a Facebook post by Adam Milsom, the executive chef of Kappy's Subs. “It has been an absolute honor for me and my family to serve this community for the past 52 years. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has walked through our doors during our tenure and will miss being able to feed you all every day,” Milsom wrote.
