Man arrested for murder of man found shot to death in car near I-295/I-10 interchange, Jacksonville police say – Action News Jax

JACKSONVILLE, Florida — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said it has arrested a man for murder after found shot in the driver's seat of a car and died later in May.

Police responded to the Interstate 295 and I-10 interchange at around 8:10 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, after receiving reports of a car in the tree line.

They found a shot man in the driver's seat, later identified as Derrick Byron Nicholls (22).

Nicholls was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead, JSO said.

After evaluating the evidence, investigators identified 24-year-old Santos Saleem Herring as the suspect.

According to the JSO's online inmate information search, Herring was arrested early Tuesday morning on charges of cannabis trafficking and firearm possession as a convicted felon.

According to online records, a charge of premeditated murder was added to the charges against Santos on Tuesday afternoon.
