According to police, a dog was killed and four people were injured in a three-car accident on the Scenic Highway in Bourne on Tuesday afternoon.

At around 12:43 p.m., Boure Police officers responded to a multi-car crash on Scenic Highway near Edgehill Road, a department statement said.

In one of the three vehicles involved in the accident there was a large dog, which died at the scene of the accident due to its injuries.

There were two people in each vehicle, police said. Four of them were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Two others refused to be taken to the hospital.

A preliminary investigation by Bourne Police revealed that one of the vehicles attempted an illegal left turn while exiting a rest area and collided with a car traveling eastbound. Both vehicles ended up in the westbound lane where they collided with the third vehicle.

Police called the Bourne Department of Natural Resources for assistance with the dog. Wareham EMS and Brester Ambulance provided mutual aid.

The accident remains under investigation by Bourne Police.
