Bunnie Xo meets the two sons of murder victim Diane Ruiz

Jelly Roll isn't the only member of his family working hard to connect with fans who are struggling.

At their meet-and-greet before the Orlando stop at Jelly's Beautifully broken Tour on Tuesday (September 17), the singer's wife, Bunnie Xo, finally had the opportunity to meet two special young men with whom she has been corresponding for quite some time.

They were 19-year-old Zane Romero and 28-year-old Brandon Cuellar, the two sons of prominent murder victim Diane Ruiz.

In October 2019 People reported that Ruiz disappeared on her way home from work and was later found dead in a vacant lot near her home. She had been strangled and hit by a car.

According to NBC affiliate News Channel 8 in Tampa, 30-year-old Wade Wilson was arrested in connection with Ruiz's murder that same month. He was also charged with the murder of 35-year-old Kristine Melton, who also died of strangulation just hours before Ruiz. Wilson reportedly “bragged” to police officers about the murders, saying he would have liked to kill his girlfriend, whose car he had stolen between the two murders, but there were “too many people around.”

In June, Wilson was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder, as well as grand larceny, burglary, assault and petty theft, according to Fox, and was subsequently sentenced to death.

Bunnie has been following the case for some time now and says this summer she felt compelled to be a positive presence in the lives of Ruiz's two sons.

She shared video footage of her meeting with Zane and Brandon and explained a little bit of the backstory and why their story stuck in her mind.

“In June I learned [an] extremely valuable lesson that catapulted me [a] journey I never could have imagined,” Bunnie said, without getting into all the details of that lesson. “Since then, I have been working diligently behind the scenes to learn as much as I can and be a voice for the voiceless.”

She contacted Ruiz's children and has been supporting them quietly ever since, and made a “private donation” to help ease the financial burden they face following their mother's death.

“Tonight I got to hug and squeeze Diane Ruiz's boys after months of talking to them,” Bunnie continues. “Her son Brandon told me he believes it was his mother who brought us together.”

“& what makes this evening even more special is that it would have been Diane's 49th birthday,” she adds.

Bunnie also added a link to the family's GoFundMe campaign in the bio of her TikTok account.

The podcaster and social media influencer will accompany her country star husband for the rest of his tour, which will run through October. Jelly also places emphasis on personal healing in his music: He recently sang his song “I Am Not Okay,” which deals with mental health, as part of the In Memoriam segment at the Emmy Awards.
