Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll joins elite list

Arizona Diamondbacks star outfielder Corbin Carroll hit his 20th and 21st home runs of the season Wednesday afternoon at Coors Field. The first home run came on a 1-0 fastball by Rockies starter Austin Gomber and flew 438 feet into the right-field bleachers.

The second strike came on the eighth pitch of his second inning with a 3-2 slider. It was a line shot just above the scoreboard in right field.

Carroll became the 11th player in MLB history to have two or more seasons with at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases at age 23 or younger, according to Stathead.

It was a remarkable turnaround for Carroll after going through the dreaded sophomore slump in the first half of the season. Through July 6, he had just two home runs and 15 RBIs and a .210 batting average with a .608 OPS.

Since July 7, he has hit 19 home runs and stolen 14 bases in 261 at-bats. In 61 games, he has scored 61 runs and batted in 47 runs. His batting average is currently .236 and his OPS is .761. Carroll also leads the league with 14 triples.

Carroll was one of the main catalysts for the Diamondbacks' push into the postseason after the All-Star break.
