Oakland Fire Rescue helps family find dog after rollover accident on I-95 – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

OAKLAND PARK, FLA. (WSVN) – A South Florida family is relieved to have their beloved dog back, just days after their pet went missing following a serious car accident.

After a rollover accident, Debby Dawson would be happy to have survived the accident, but would have to spend days desperately searching for the family dog.

Now the Dawson family can rest easy after an emotional reunion with their beloved pet – all thanks to first responders.

“Where were you? I looked right where you were,” said a firefighter.

It was a tender moment that Debby and her family had been waiting for.

“There are more good people out there than you think,” she said.

Moose, the family's 15-month-old pet, is finally home after escaping the scene of the horrific crash on Interstate 95 south of Cypress Creek Road on Saturday.

Debby was on her way home to Jacksonville when a driver cut her off and her car overturned with her and Moose inside.

“He ran away. He was scared and petrified,” Debby said. “I didn't think about myself, I could only think about him.”

Debby was taken to Broward Health North and released later that evening, but there was still no sign of Moose.

“I'm glad I'm alive and I'm blessed to be here. And then we just started looking for Moose. Finding him was our priority,” Debby said.

Her son and husband traveled from Jacksonville to help search for their beloved pet.

“But this ring here, the one that was there before, was literally ripped apart,” said Corey Dawson, Debby's husband.

“Stuck in the seatbelt or something,” said the son.

“So we had no way of tracking him down,” Corey said.

But on Tuesday afternoon, the Dawsons received a call from the Oakland Park Fire Department. The rescue workers would give them the happy ending they had hoped for.

“He [Moose] “He was lying in the rubble, off 95, in a brush area,” said Monica Maldonado, battalion commander of the Oakland Park Fire Department.

“I had sent Corey a voice message of me calling him, and when they played it for him, he heard my voice. Then he got up and came out of the bushes,” Debby said.

Moose was fine. He had only suffered minor injuries to his paws.

The family is grateful to the first responders who helped bring their sweet Moo-Moo back home.

“They promised me they would find him and they did and I can't thank them enough for all their work and hard work and for not giving up,” Debby said.

Debby said that after their emotional reunion, the first thing Moose did was stuff his belly with delicious dog food.
