Police – NBC 6 South Florida

A man faces serious charges after undercover investigators found a woman in Miami Beach who authorities say was a victim of violent human trafficking.

Robert Brown, 37, was arrested on Tuesday. He is accused of human trafficking, receiving money from prostitution, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and cocaine possession, according to a police report.

According to the report, Miami Beach Police Department human trafficking investigators went undercover and contacted an online prostitution ad on Listcrawler.

An undercover officer was dispatched to a location for the “date” and received a call from a woman who met with the undercover officer and took him to an apartment where she offered him sex for $200, the report said.

Detectives searched the apartment and spoke to the woman, who stated that she was engaging in prostitution to pay her bills.

The woman said she met Brown in March when he responded to one of her online ads and paid her $150 for sex, but “he never left,” the report said.

She said Brown stayed at her home but did not have a job or contribute anything to the household but took photos of her to post online and texted customers who responded to ads, the report said.

She said Brown would come to the apartment when customers refused to pay her, including a man who had canceled a CashApp transaction.

Brown called the man and threatened to call his family if he didn't make the payment again, which angered the man, the woman told investigators.

The woman said Brown was physically violent toward her and “freaked out any time he felt disrespected,” the report said.

She had photos and videos of injuries she sustained at the hands of Brown, including a large bruise on her leg that she sustained when he chased her through the house with a large knife and then pushed her into a bathtub, where he attacked and beat her, the report said.

She also had a bruise on the inside of her lip from an incident in July in which he grabbed her face. In August, he pushed her, causing her to fall and suffer a severe bruise on her leg, the report said.

In another incident she recorded, he punched her in the eye, verbally abused her and told her, “I'm going to kill you,” the report said.

The woman said she gave Brown more than $14,000 after he told her she had to give him 20 percent of her income. He later changed that amount to a lump sum if she earned $500 or more, the report said.

When she said she didn't want to work, Brown was disappointed and told her “it was just a date, just an hour” and she felt obligated to work, the report said.

Brown was arrested when he returned to her building. He was carrying a bag containing three glass pipes with a white residue believed to be crack cocaine, the report said.

According to the report, Brown is British but has a permanent address in Miami Beach.

Brown was taken to jail. Attorney information was not available.
