UPDATE: Chicago woman charged with murder in connection with death of her infant son in Peoria

UPDATED 5:14 p.m.

PEORIA, Illinois – A Chicago woman has been charged with murder in connection with the death of her infant son in Peoria on Monday.

According to court and jail records, 25-year-old Andrea Luncsford was charged with first-degree murder and endangering the life or health of a child, a third-degree felony.

Luncsford's son, one-month-old Grayson, died Monday of severe dehydration and hyperthermia.

25 News reported that prosecutors said Andrea was acting strangely when Peoria police arrived at the scene around 7 p.m. Monday and that she may have been under the influence of a substance at the time. She reportedly tested positive for cocaine.

Luncsford's father had reported that she had been calling him all day before the incident and asking for money for gas, telling Andrea he wouldn't do it. He had reportedly texted her beforehand saying, “You know the baby can overheat and die. Please let us help you.” The father also said that Andrea tried to drive away before they got Grayson out of the rented U-Haul truck they were in.

According to the police report, Andrea was traveling throughout the state on September 14, including Chicago, Morton, East Peoria and Peoria. Andrea had attended Grayson's father's funeral in Chicago the day before. Police received pictures of Grayson wearing the same clothes he wore to the funeral the day he died.

On Tuesday, Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Grayson was left in a hot vehicle for an unknown amount of time, but he believes it was more than four hours. Additional autopsy results indicate Grayson may have been dead for 12 to 24 hours.

Andrea's detention hearing was adjourned until Thursday. The prosecution requested that she be held in custody pending her trial.
