Man arrested after traffic stop leads to drug raid in Jefferson County

A man was arrested Tuesday when illegal narcotics were discovered during a traffic stop in Jefferson County.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said 45-year-old Willie Mullins Jr. was charged with drug trafficking, unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, prohibited possession of a handgun against certain persons, second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The sheriff's office said members of the drug enforcement unit conducted an operation in the Pratt City/Ensley area.

Investigators had previously received complaints from citizens about drug trafficking and violent crime in the area.

The sheriff's office said detectives stopped a Chevrolet Trax at the corner of 18th Avenue and Avenue V, resulting in the arrest of the driver and the seizure of narcotics and firearms.

According to the sheriff's office, items seized included $1,525 in cash, 20.39 grams of cocaine, seven grams of marijuana, two grams of fentanyl, a stolen 9mm Glock, plastic bags and a digital scale.

Mullins was granted a total bail of $176,000.
