Robert Pattinson lives, dies and plays a new role in a science fiction film

Robert Pattinson will live to see another day in his next film. Mickey 17.

The film is by Bong Joon Ho, the Oscar-winning screenwriter and director parasite And Snowpiercer. In the first trailer, which premiered on Tuesday, September 17, Pattinson, 38, is seen being told: “It was nice meeting you. Have a nice death. See you tomorrow.”

Based on the 2022 novel Mickey 7 by Edward Ashton, Mickey 17 also with Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo.

A brief synopsis reads: “Unlikely hero Mickey Barnes (Pattinson) finds himself in the extraordinary position of working for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to the job… he must die to earn a living.”

A 30-second teaser for the film was released in December 2022, when Mickey 17The release date was originally planned for March 29, 2024.

Pattinson made a surprise appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas in April to preview the film and talk about what attracted him to the project.

“I have been Bong's biggest fan for many, many years; he is my hero,” Pattinson said at the event, according to Weekly entertainment. “I was sent the script and was told, 'You're going to love the script, but the role is impossible.' That was very, very exciting for me. I thought it was the most unusual, bizarre, funniest script.”

The Batman The actor also expressed his excitement about playing “two very funny characters.”

“Mickey 17 is someone who has the lowest expectations of his life, and yet the world keeps pushing those expectations to the point where he has a job that tortures him every day. And then the 18-year-old comes along and has frontal lobe damage and no self-control, his libido is out of control,” he said of the title character. “It's like playing an evil brother or twin.”

Mickey 17 will be in theaters on January 31st.
