Final Fantasy 16 lacks built-in PC features, but you can modify them

One of my favorite RPGs of recent years, Final Fantasy 16 is out now on PC. The story of Clive, Jill, Cid, and best boy Torgal is one I won't soon forget. If you don't own a PS5 or have been waiting for the port, I wholeheartedly recommend you check out Steam or Epic. However, the PC port is missing some features that a day one release of this magnitude should have. While FF16 isn't unplayable, the lack of these features is a major bummer. Luckily for us, there's already a new Final Fantasy 16 mod that adds them, and it's a mandatory download.

Final Fantasy 16 continues the action-oriented approach of the series and is a story about family. There are political intrigues, Eikons and a big dogbut Clive and Joshua's story is the beating heart, so if you want to jump into the RPG now, there's a free Steam demo that will transfer your progress so you can try it out first – but it's also a great way to see how your rig performs.

On to the “FFXVIFIX” mod. Created by “Wintermance,” it adds both ultrawide and narrowscreen support, removes the 30fps cap in cutscenes, adds FOV adjustment, and allows the use of frame generation with motion blur. Screen stuttering when taking screenshots has also been fixed, alongside JXL support (for better quality images). Almost every triple-A game in 2024 should have these features, and now FF16 has them too.

Square Enix also recently updated the Final Fantasy 16 demo with numerous PC-specific fixes, so I wouldn't rule out these much-needed features being officially integrated into the full game at some point. However, they aren't available right now, so this FF16 mod is your best bet.

If you'll allow me one last rave about FF16, it appealed even to me, as someone who's not that into high fantasy. The slick combat, superb performances (Ralph Ineson's take on series regular Cid is a real highlight), and Masayoshi Soken's earth-shattering music all combine to create something larger than life. 2024 has been a busy year for gaming, but if you can squeeze this PC port in between, I highly recommend it.

While the overall PC performance reports are solid, be sure to check out Final Fantasy 16's system requirements if you haven't bought it yet. Otherwise, we've rounded up the best fantasy games for PC instead.
