Police car crashes in Albany

UPDATE: Four police officers were injured in an accident between Madison Avenue and Quail Street on Wednesday afternoon.

As a result of the accident, Madison Avenue was closed between North Lake Avenue and Ontario Street. Quail Street was also closed between Yates Street and Hamilton Street.

At around 4 p.m., officers not involved in the crash responded to a private call near Slingerlands Street and Second Avenue. Albany police said they were dealing with an unruly suspect and called other units for backup.

According to police, there was ultimately a clash between two different emergency units that had been called to help.

All four officers suffered head injuries. These injuries are not life-threatening, but officials say it will take some time for the officers to recover.

Motorists are currently advised to look for alternative routes.
