1st Test Highlights Day 1: Ton-up R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja help India to 339/6 against Bangladesh | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Ravichandran Ashwin's sixth Test century combined with Ravindra Jadeja's resilient knock helped India post an impressive 339 for six stumps on the first day of the first Test against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Bangladesh's decision to bowl first after winning the coin toss paid off early on.
Pacer Hasan Mahmud, making his third Test appearance, tore down India's top order with a fiery 6-3 win. Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0) and Virat Kohli (6) fell victim to Mahmud's early onslaught, leaving India in a precarious position at 29 for 3.
KL Rahul (16) and Rishabh Pant (39) tried to get the innings going again, but their partnership was ended by Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mahmud respectively, leaving India reeling at 144 for 6.

However, the experienced duo of Ashwin and Jadeja managed a remarkable turnaround.
They showed exemplary resilience and counter-attacking strength and forged an unbroken partnership of 195 runs for the seventh wicket.
Showing his trademark elegance and timing, Ashwin reached his century with a single against Shakib Al Hasan. His innings, peppered with 12 boundaries and a six, was a testament to his batting power and ability to perform under pressure.

Jadeja played the perfect contrast and was the anchor of the innings with a calm 86 points.
His innings was marked by calculated aggression, punctuated by nine boundaries and a six. He rotated the strike effectively and provided Ashwin with tireless support.
The pair's dominance frustrated the Bangladesh bowlers, who struggled to stem the flow of runs. Mahmud finished as the best bowler for Bangladesh with 4-58, while Miraz took one wicket.
India, who were on the defensive initially, ended the day in a strong position thanks to the exceptional partnership between Ashwin and Jadeja. Now, on day two, it is up to the duo to further consolidate India's position.
