Hillsborough County deputy dies in tractor-trailer crash in Thonotosassa

THONOTOSASSA, Fla. (WWSB) – A Hillsborough County officer was killed in a traffic accident in Thonotosassa on Thursday.

Deputy Darell Brown was killed in a collision with a semi-trailer on US-301 north of Stacy Road.

“Our hearts break for Deputy Brown's family, friends and loved ones as they deal with this incredible loss,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This tragedy comes at an incredibly difficult time as our Sheriff's Office continues to mourn the loss of Deputy White. I humbly ask the community to pray for all those affected by these painful losses. Deputy Brown was more than just a colleague; he was a friend, a mentor and a source of inspiration to many. His genuine warmth, dedication and compassionate spirit left a lasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to know him.”

Brown joined the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in January 2015 and faithfully served his community as an auxiliary jail employee in both detention facilities, most recently serving in the booking unit at the Orient Road Jail.

Deputy Brown was off-duty and driving his personal vehicle at the time of the accident.
