A suspect who fled when Tompkins County Sheriff's officers responded to a call of a shooting in North Lansing just after midnight was arrested early Thursday afternoon following an all-night search and a delay in the opening of the Lansing Central School District Thursday morning.

Sheriff Derek Osborne said 19-year-old Yair Elver Perez-Raymundo, of North Lansing School Road in the city of Lansing, was located and arrested without incident at 2:07 p.m. “The individual who left the scene with him prior to police arrival was also located and found unharmed,” the sheriff added.

The sheriff said this morning that officers were called to a residence on North Lansing School Road around 12:11 a.m. where “it was reported that there was an argument between the three residents and that one of the residents threatened and fired a long gun.”

“Officers responding to the call quickly located the resident, who called 911 after fleeing the home. While in the area, officers heard additional gunshots,” the sheriff's office said in a statement. “A search of the residences failed to locate the suspect, but the firearm used in the shooting was located and the suspect was not known to possess any other weapons. The suspect and the other resident are believed to have fled into the heavily wooded area surrounding the residence.”

Sheriff Osborne said, “The Ithaca Police Department and New York State Police assisted in conducting a comprehensive search of the residence and surrounding area, including the Tompkins-Ithaca SRT and a New York State Police helicopter.”

According to Sheriff Osborne, Perez-Raymundo was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree menacing, both class A misdemeanors, and was being held in the Tompkins County Jail pending arraignment in Central District Court tonight.
