Family hopes new surveillance video will lead to arrest in Southeast DC senior citizen murder

The family of Johnny Reeves, a 70-year-old man stabbed to death in southeast DC, is asking the public for help in identifying a person who may be connected to his murder. DC police released new surveillance video Thursday in hopes it will lead to an arrest.

The footage shows a man wearing a red hat walking near a metal gate in the 4600 block of Livingston Road SE around 3:40 a.m. on Sept. 10. Police have identified this man as a “person of interest” in the case.

Around the same time, police responded to a 911 call that a car had crashed into a telephone pole in the area. When they arrived, they found Reeves' car on the sidewalk and Reeves himself lying in the street with stab wounds.

His death was pronounced at the scene.

Reeves' sister, Princess Reeves, spoke exclusively to FOX 5 and expressed hope that the video will help solve the case.

“I'm glad they have someone, you know, and we're asking the public to come forward if they can identify the person. We're praying that someone knows something and will turn this guy over so he can be caught,” she said.

Johnny Reeves was a retired electrician and pipefitter who roller skated and enjoyed spending time with his girlfriend of 25 years.

His family remembers him as a kind and funny man.

The Washington, DC Police Department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
