“From despair to…”: Sachin Tendulkar and Anil Kumble’s ultimate tribute to Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja

Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar praised all-rounders Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja for taking India from “despair to dominance” with their counter-attacking partnership in the first Test against Bangladesh. Ashwin and Jadeja's defensive performances rescued India in the first innings of the first Test against Bangladesh with both the all-rounders unbeaten at the end of the first day's play at the MA Chidambaram Stadium here. At the end of the first day, Team India were at 339/6 with Ashwin (102*) and Jadeja (86*) looking strong after an unbeaten partnership of 195 runs.

Tendulkar wrote to X: “From desperation to dominance! @ashwinravi99 and @imjadeja strikes have turned the tide for India once again. This brilliant all-round performance is priceless. Great partnership, guys. #INDvBAN.”

“@ashwinravi99's century coupled with @imjadeja's innings turned the tide for India. Their determination and partnership were crucial after such a shaky start,” wrote Anil Kumble.

“Serious cricketers…@ashwinravi99 & @imjadeja…How often do they perform magic tricks with the bat back home in India…!! They will no doubt follow suit with the ball too…#INDvBAN,” Vaughan wrote.

When it came to play, Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bowl first. The top order collapsed and India were left at 34/3. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (56 in 118 balls, with nine fours) and Rishabh Pant (39 in 52 balls, with six fours) put on a 62-run partnership for the fourth wicket and brought India into the game. After India were reduced to 144/6, Ashwin and Jadeja (86* in 117 balls, with 10 fours and two sixes) put on a 195-run partnership to end the day at 339/6.

Hasan Mahmud (4/58) was the best bowler for Bangladesh and destroyed the Indian top order by removing captain Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0) and Virat Kohli (6).
