James McAvoy is joined by his glamorous wife Lisa Liberati at the New York premiere of Speak No Evil – after admitting he based his character on misogynistic influencer Andrew Tate

James McAvoy was supported by his wife Lisa Liberati as he reunited with his co-stars on Monday night to promote his latest film, “Speak No Evil In New York City.”

The Scottish actor was at the DGA Theater alongside Scoot McNairy, Mackenzie Davis, Alix West Lefler and Dan Hough for the premiere of their upcoming psychological thriller.

McAvoy, 45, looked appropriately dapper in a black two-piece suit as the cast gathered alongside writer-director James Watkins ahead of the official U.S. screening.

He was accompanied by his glamorous wife Liberati, a former personal assistant to M. Night Shyamalan, who met McAvoy while working with the director on the 2016 film Split.

The actor stars as Paddy, a family man with a dark secret, in Watkins' English-language adaptation of the 2022 Danish film of the same name.

And he admits that he drew on a number of controversial influences in creating the character, including misogynistic influencer Andrew Tate.

He told Empire: “I thought I could exploit the fact that the character thinks he is a certain… Andrew Tate from the west of the country.”

“He says something like, 'I'm going to show you what it's like to be a man again.'” But there's a kind of polite face that's not quite Andrew Tate, but enough of the impression of, 'I'm not one of those guys.'”

'[Paddy’s] They challenge you: 'Do you have a dick big enough to have a drink with me?' or 'Sorry, this is too much for you because you are not real enough.'

He added: “They wanted something that was a bit agricultural. I had two big visual references. The first was the Australian term bogan, which can be associated with a certain level of toxic masculinity.

“And the other was the character of the Rooster of Jerusalem, played so brilliantly by Mark Rylance.”

Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested in Romania last month on suspicion of crimes against 35 women, including allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old girl.

The two are currently under house arrest in Bucharest and are accused of human trafficking, including trafficking in minors, sexual intercourse with minors, forming an organized criminal group, money laundering and influencing statements.

The alleged crimes date between 2014 and 2024. The Tates deny all allegations against them.

In Great Britain, several women also came forward and accused the two brothers of serious rape.

On October 7, a court is also due to rule on whether the brothers committed tax evasion in the UK after Devon and Cornwall Police filed a case against them, claiming they had not paid tax on £12 billion in income.

“Speak No Evil” will be released on September 13, 2024.
