Washington police officer involved in two-vehicle accident

State police are investigating after a Washington police officer was involved in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday night while en route to a reported stabbing.

The Washington Police Department posted a statement from Police Chief Steve Devenney on its Facebook page.

According to Devenney, officers were called to the 1200 block of Summerlea Avenue around 10:50 p.m. for a domestic dispute involving a stabbing of a person.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Hall Avenue. According to Devenney, the accident involved a police vehicle with an officer and a private vehicle with a driver and no passengers.

According to state police, the officer was traveling north on Jefferson while the other driver was traveling west on Hall.

The passenger side of the police vehicle struck the driver side of the other vehicle. According to state police, the driver was ejected from the vehicle after the car skidded and struck a pole.

The police vehicle overturned onto the driver's side. State police are conducting interviews and reviewing surveillance footage as part of the investigation.

According to Devenney, both drivers were taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment.

When reached by phone on Thursday, Devenney declined to provide any further details about the crash beyond the statement shared on social media.
