Teenager arrested for murder in Queens, manhunt for second suspect


QUEENS, NY — A 15-year-old boy was arrested early Wednesday in connection with an ongoing murder investigation, police said. The arrest occurred at 12:06 a.m. in the jurisdiction of the NYPD's 113th Precinct.

The teenager is charged with second-degree murder and fourth-degree illegal possession of a weapon. The arrest followed an extensive investigation, but details about the incident or the victim have not been released.

Authorities are still seeking further information on another person believed to be involved in the case. The person is described as male, between the ages of 15 and 18, with black hair, a slim build and weighing approximately 70 kilograms.

QUEENS, NY — The NYPD is asking the public for help in identifying a second suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Jean Pierre Rengifo-Arteaga in Queens last Friday. Authorities have released media of the perpetrator last seen near the crime scene as the investigation remains ongoing.

Officers responded to a 911 call at 7:20 p.m. on September 13, 2024, reporting an assault in progress at 33-37 96th Street in the 115th Precinct. Upon arrival, they found Rengifo-Arteaga with gunshot wounds to the head, right forearm, and abdomen. He was transported by EMS to NYC Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst, where he was pronounced dead.

The NYPD has already arrested one man in the case and charged a 15-year-old boy with second-degree murder and fourth-degree illegal possession of a weapon, but police are now looking for a second person believed to be involved in the incident.

The person being sought is described as a male with medium skin color, between 20 and 25 years old, with medium-length braided black hair, dark eyes and a medium build. He was last seen wearing a beige shirt, beige pants, black shoes and a black kippah.

Police have provided media showing the suspect from near the incident. The public is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or submit tips online. All information will be kept confidential.

The investigation is ongoing, but no further people have been arrested so far.

    On Wednesday, September 19, 2024, at approximately 11:40 a.m., a 17-year-old male was arrested in the 107th Precinct and charged with two counts of first-degree criminal damage to property and first-degree reckless endangerment. The day before, on Tuesday, September 18, at approximately 12:30 p.m., a 17-year-old female was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal damage to property and first-degree reckless endangerment.

    The charges stem from an incident on Thursday, September 12, 2024, when the two individuals boarded an unoccupied subway train at Briarwood station at approximately 12:08 a.m. They drove the train, resulting in a collision and property damage. The individuals fled the scene of the accident on foot; no injuries were reported.

    The investigation is ongoing and police are asking the public for help in identifying and locating other people connected to the incident.

  • Police search for moped suspect targeting women in NYC

    NEW YORK — The New York Police Department is asking the public for help in identifying a person wanted in connection with a grand larceny in the 43rd Precinct, officials said.

    According to police, the first incident occurred around 4:20 p.m. Tuesday. A person on a moped approached a 35-year-old woman in front of 415 Soundview Avenue and attempted to steal her phone. The suspect fled north on Soundview Avenue. No injuries were reported.

    The second incident occurred on Friday around 6:30 p.m. A person, also on a moped, approached a 21-year-old woman in front of 2264 Gleason Avenue and snatched her phone. The person then fled onto Havemeyer Avenue. Again, no injuries were reported.

    Both incidents are currently under investigation and police are asking anyone with information to contact authorities.

    Further details about the suspect or additional information are not yet available.

  • 23-year-old shot dead in Philadelphia on Tuesday evening

    PHILADELPHIA — A 23-year-old man is in critical but stable condition after being shot in the left thigh Tuesday night, police said.

    The shooting occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. The victim was taken by police to Einstein Medical Center for treatment. Authorities have not yet recovered any weapons and no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
