Illegal immigrant arrested after shooting in Santa Rosa Beach

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. – An illegal immigrant from Mexico is facing charges in connection with a shooting Wednesday in Santa Rosa Beach.

It happened on Wednesday afternoon in the Bella Boulevard area.

According to the sheriff's office, witnesses told officers that Jose Cruz Michua, 29, of Mexico, pulled up in a pickup truck in front of an address where they were working and fired two shots into the air with a handgun. Witnesses said this was an ongoing feud between those involved.

“During the investigation, an empty cartridge case was found under a van in front of the house,” a press release states.

Officers found Michua at his home, where he allegedly admitted to being the driver of the pickup truck, but said it had been parked there for the past few hours.

“After a search of the vehicle, a bullet casing was found under the windshield wipers of Michua's truck that matched the one found near the van,” a press release said.

Michua was arrested for firing a firearm from a vehicle.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) took Michua into custody. He was given a $10,000 bond.

“If Michua posts bail, ICE will have 48 hours from that time to take him into custody,” the sheriff's office says. “If Michua does NOT post bail, he will remain in custody until the court proceedings in Walton County are completed, after which ICE will have 48 hours to take him into custody.”
