A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a car in the area of ​​4500 Pretty Prairie Road around 6:45 a.m. Thursday.



BATTLE GROUND, Ind. (WLFI) – A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a car around 6:40 a.m. Thursday in the area of ​​4500 Pretty Prairie Road.

Captain Rob Hainje says a 22-year-old Lafayette man was driving a Dodge Charger in the northeast lane when he attempted to pass another vehicle. He struck a 33-year-old Monticello man in the southbound lane who was driving a Honda motorcycle in the opposite lane.

Traffic was moving slowly after giving way to a fire truck responding to another emergency call in Colburn, said Hainje, who described the accident as a “side-on collision in the opposite direction.”

The motorcyclist was flown by helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital after his left leg had to be partially amputated and his injuries are considered life-threatening.

The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the Dodge Charger was not wearing a seatbelt but suffered no injuries.

The road was closed for about three hours.

The name of the driver of the Honda motorcycle is not known to the police.

The crash is currently still under investigation.
