Eight-month-old Mabli died four days after the accident outside Withybush Hospital

A 70-year-old woman has admitted causing the death of an eight-month-old baby through dangerous driving in an accident outside a hospital.

Mabli Cariad Hall, from Neath, died in June 2023, four days after her pram was hit by a car outside Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.

Bridget Curtis, of Begelly, Pembrokeshire, pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Swansea Crown Court.

The verdict is scheduled for November 22nd.

Judge Geraint Walters disqualified Curtis from driving and said psychiatric reports and a pre-sentence report would be prepared before the hearing.

“You probably already understand that granting bail and requesting reports cannot provide any indication of the sentence that might be imposed on you,” he told her.

“They can be released on bail until the day of the verdict.”

John Dye, who represents Curtis, said his client is 70 years old, has a clean driving record and no criminal record.

He told the court: “She is absolutely devastated to be here.”

Mr Dye said Curtis, who was charged with negligent homicide in July, had voluntarily surrendered her driver's license.

Mabli's father Rob was also injured in the incident.

He was present in court on Friday along with Mabli's extended family.

Mabli's mother Gwen held a stuffed animal during the hearing.

Mabli's family left the court with a stuffed animal in their hands. Two women dressed in black dresses and light-colored cardigans walk down the stairs. One holds a stuffed animal in her right hand, which is also held by a man who is bald and wearing beige pants and a jacket and a black top. Six other family members are seen behind them in coats.

In a statement, the family described the past year as the most terrible time of their lives.

They said: “Every day is a day of pain for us, even now, but as parents we must continue to give our other children the love and support they need as they are still trying to cope with the loss of their little sister.”

After Mabli's death, they said: “Our family life has changed forever and to this day we are still trying to come to terms with what happened.”

“We will never forget the love and support we received and the memory of our precious angel Mabli Cariad.”

In June, the family laid flowers at the spot where Mabli was fatally injured, exactly one year after it happened.
