Traffic accident with serious injuries at 54th Avenue North and 12th Street North

On Thursday, September 19, at 2:02 p.m., a maroon 2006 Toyota Avalon sedan traveling westbound at a high rate of speed and recklessly in the 1100 block of 54th Avenue North collided with a maroon 2005 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck at the intersection of 54th Avenue North and 12th Street North.

Shortly before the accident, the 18-year-old driver of the Chevy pickup truck, traveling south on 12th Street North, had stopped at the intersection of 54th Ave. N. and 12th St. N. He was attempting to cross 54th Avenue North when the accident occurred.

Upon impact, the Chevy pickup rolled onto its roof and the driver was trapped. The unidentified driver of the Toyota sedan climbed out of his vehicle and fled the scene. Investigators said the Toyota driver was picked up by another vehicle a few blocks away.

The 18-year-old driver was taken to a local hospital, where his condition was last reported to be critical but stable.
