Middletown and Port Jervis drug dealers plead guilty – The Warwick Valley Dispatch

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that Taino Lopez, 26, of Port Jervis, pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance in Orange County Court on Monday, September 9, 2024. Pursuant to the plea agreement on record at the time of Lopez's guilty plea, he is expected to be sentenced to five (5) years in prison, followed by three (3) years of probation, at his next court date on November 4, 2024.

District Attorney Hoovler also announced that Carroll Dolshun, 38, of Port Jervis, pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree in Orange County Court on Monday, September 9, 2024. Pursuant to the agreement entered into the record at the time of Dolshun's guilty plea, prosecutors will recommend that he be sentenced to four (4) years in prison at his next court date on October 29, 2024, followed by a period of probation upon his release.

According to the documents filed and statements made in court, on February 9, 2024, an undercover officer with the City of Middletown Police Department met with Lopez and negotiated to purchase a certain amount of crack cocaine. After giving Lopez money, the undercover officer delivered the agreed-upon drugs to the officer, which were subsequently analyzed in the crime lab and confirmed the presence of cocaine. At the plea bargain, Lopez admitted to knowingly and illicitly selling the narcotics.

According to the documents filed and statements made in court, on two dates in late 2022 and early 2023, Dolshun sold quantities of cocaine to another individual at his residence in the City of Port Jervis. Members of the City of Port Jervis Police Department then applied for a court-authorized search warrant for the residence. During the execution of the search warrant, law enforcement seized narcotics, digital scales, and packaging materials used to prepare the narcotics for sale. At the guilty plea hearing, Dolshun admitted to attempting to sell the cocaine to another individual.

District Attorney Hoovler thanked the City of Middletown Police for their investigation and arrest of Lopez and the City of Port Jervis Police for their investigation and arrest of Dolshun.

“Drug dealers traffic in death, and it takes proactive law enforcement efforts to uncover their crimes,” said District Attorney David M. Hoovler. “Together with our law enforcement partners, we are committed to disrupting the flow of drugs into our communities and identifying, arresting, and, where appropriate, incarcerating those responsible. My office will continue to lead by example and provide the resources necessary to hold drug dealers accountable for their crimes.”

The Lopez case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Alexis Gregory and the Dolshun case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Bryan Conway.

This charge is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed a criminal violation and is not proof of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial at which it shall be the burden of the State of New York to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
