14-year-old arrested after threatening school in Elk Grove because he wanted to stay home, police say

According to Elk Grove police, officers concluded that the teenager acted alone because he wanted to stay home from school.

A 14-year-old high school student was arrested after threatening to cause a shooting at an Elk Grove school because he wanted to stay home, police said. The teen had called 911 while using someone else's phone, misidentified himself and said there was going to be a shooting at Harriet Eddy Middle School, Elk Grove police said. Officers identified the teen as a student at a nearby high school and concluded he had acted alone because he wanted to stay home. He was booked into the Sacramento County Juvenile Detention Center on a serious felony charge. “We understand the concern and fear these types of threats cause in our community,” Elk Grove police said in a statement. “Please be assured that threats are taken seriously and investigated to the fullest extent. Parents, use this as an opportunity to talk to your children about the seriousness of threats, whether in person, on the phone or online. A 14-year-old high school student was arrested after threatening to shoot at an Elk Grove school because he wanted to stay home from school, police said.

The teenager had called 911 while using someone else's phone, identified himself under a false identity and said there was a shooting going on at Harriet Eddy Middle School, Elk Grove police said.

Officers identified the teenager as a student at a nearby high school and concluded that he acted alone because he wanted to stay home from school.

He was sent to the Sacramento County Juvenile Detention Center for a serious crime.
