Two people arrested for kidnapping in Laurel

LAUREL, Mississippi (WDAM) – Laurel police arrested a man and woman Thursday morning for the kidnapping of a child in Laurel.

Adrianne Kitchens and Traveon Pruitt, 26, were both arrested after the incident and charged with kidnapping.

Kitchens was also charged with violating the Child Protection Act, and Pruitt was additionally charged with aiding and abetting.

Officers received the call at 8:40 a.m. when it was reported that Pruitt had arrived at his estranged wife's home on Lindsey Avenue and tensions were rising.

Pruitt, who has a two-year-old child, was suddenly grabbed by Kitchens and put into a car that fled the scene.

Kitchens, who has no relationship with those involved, was chosen by Pruitt to carry out the kidnapping, which earned him charges of aiding and abetting the crime.

Officers were able to stop the vehicle at 8:46 a.m. and arrest Kitchens and the child.

The child was returned to his mother unharmed.

No bail has been set for Kitchens and Pruitt, and they have not yet made their first court appearance.
