Sewickley Township man accused of threatening neighbors with knife pleads guilty

A Sewickley Township man who pleaded guilty this week to attacking his neighbor with a knife will be released from jail and placed on inpatient treatment, according to a court order.

Kurtis C. Baker, 33, pleaded guilty Wednesday to terroristic threats, criminal damage and drug possession. He was sentenced to six to 23 months in the Westmoreland County Jail, according to the court order.

The time he has served in prison since his arrest at the end of July was credited to him.

Police in the neighboring state said Baker charged at him, grabbed the knife and held the suspect until police arrived, court records say. The neighbor reported investigating a noise he heard outside his home on Yukon Road, just north of Yukon, around 4 a.m. on July 27. As the neighbor went to his vehicles to check his tires, the suspect raised a knife above his head and charged at the man, a witness told police.

Several other charges against Baker were dropped by prosecutors.

He was ordered to pay $700 in restitution and is prohibited from contacting the neighbor or entering the property. He was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation and a drug and alcohol abuse evaluation.
