Homicide charges filed after fatal accident in Barron County

BARRON COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) – A Rice Lake man has been charged with manslaughter for causing a car crash two weeks ago that left another man dead.

Steven Anderson, 45, faces eight charges, including manslaughter by driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to the criminal complaint, Anderson was driving on County Highway SS in Barron County on the night of September 6 when he crossed the center line and collided with another vehicle.

When emergency responders arrived, they found the driver of the other vehicle, John Shuebel of Cameron, dead and an injured passenger.

An officer said Anderson was found slumped over his steering wheel, smelling of alcohol, and an open container next to him.

After being admitted to the hospital, Anderson underwent blood and urine tests that showed he had been driving while intoxicated that night.
