Brothers accused of chase in Rochester and fatal crash in Brighton plead not guilty

Rochester, NY – Two teenage brothers who were charged after a Rochester police chase ended in a fatal crash in Brighton last month are now awaiting trial.

Theodice Parks, 17, and Theophilus Parks, 19, pleaded not guilty Friday after being charged last week on several counts.

Theodice is accused of leading police on a chase in a stolen Kia on Aug. 22 that resulted in the driver colliding with another vehicle at the corner of East and Elmwood Avenue, killing the other driver, 92-year-old Thomas Chase. He is charged with murder, aggravated homicide by vehicle, manslaughter, driving under the influence, three counts of assault, aggravated assault by vehicle, reckless endangerment and illegal possession of stolen property. He is being held at the Monroe County Children's Detention Center.

Theophilus was reportedly in the passenger seat. He is charged with assault and illegal possession of stolen property. He was taken back into custody and is being held in the Monroe County Jail on $100,000 cash bail.

“I am pleased that the court has set a higher bail amount – a substantial bail amount that reflects the seriousness of the crime he is charged with,” said Assistant District Attorney Raymond Benitez.

A third suspect, 19-year-old Trevan Simmons, is charged with assault, illegal possession of stolen property and illegal possession of a firearm.
