A man loitering near area schools was arrested on September 19 after police charged him with illegal parking in the area of 6200 Hillcrest Avenue.

Omar Nasir was taken into custody by University Park police at about 5:18 a.m. Thursday on a charge of crossing the street other than at a crosswalk, a Class C misdemeanor. He posted $200 bail and was released at 8:30 a.m. Friday, according to University Park Deputy Police Chief Travis Vavra.

Nasir has been seen near areas where children gather since at least September 13.

Several HPISD schools have notified parents about “a suspicious individual” named Nasir. The emails emphasized that schools take all safety-related reports seriously and thanked families for their cooperation in keeping students safe.

The HPISD Police Department issued a trespassing warning to all Nasir District schools on September 18.

An email Northway Christian Day School sent to parents after Nasir was seen nearby said he was “walking down Wentwood and appeared to be taking photos of Boone Elementary.” The message continued, “Immediately NCDS Security, Boone Security and UP Police were alerted and all children were brought into the building.”
