Dracut Police Arrest Man on Drug and Motor Vehicle Charges

DRACUT – Police Chief Peter Bartlett reports that Dracut police arrested a Dracut man on Tuesday following a car crash and charged him with distribution of Suboxone.

SCOTT KERAGHAN, 27 YEARS OLD, FROM DRACUTwas arrested and charged with:

  • Speeding
  • Violation of road markings
  • Negligent operation of a motor vehicle
  • Leaving the area in case of property damage
  • Operating with a suspended license
  • Possession of a Class B substance (two counts)
  • Possession of a Class E substance
  • Distribution of a Class B substance

On Tuesday, September 17, Officer Andrew Gys was on patrol in the area of ​​Primrose Hill Road at approximately 4:30 p.m. when he observed a vehicle traveling toward him at a high rate of speed. The vehicle, a Jeep Compass, forced Officer Gys to swerve to avoid a collision.

Officer Gys turned his patrol car around and followed the Jeep, eventually finding that it had struck a utility pole in the area of ​​390 Primrose Hill Road.

Officer Gys saw the driver of the vehicle, who was later identified as KERAGHAN, fled the vehicle on foot. Officer Gys pursued KERAGHAN into a nearby yard, where he found him hiding behind a shed and took him into custody.

KERAGHAN was in possession of approximately 10 grams of cocaine and 16.6 grams of Suboxone as well as several tablets of Xanax and Adderall. Officer Gys also determined that KERAGHAN was wanted on an arrest warrant.

KERAGHAN was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the accident and was booked into the Dracut Police Station upon his release from the hospital.

KERAGHAN was arraigned Wednesday in Lowell District Court, where he was held on $500 cash bail with the conditions that he not use drugs, submit to random drug testing and not drive without a valid license if he posts bail.

“Incidents like this can get dangerous very quickly,” said Police Chief Bartlett. “This was good, solid police work that took some dangerous drugs off our streets.”
