Former Florida deputy arrested for alleged accidental shooting: OPD

OCALA, Florida – The Ocala Police Department (OPD) has arrested a former deputy sheriff after he allegedly accidentally shot a woman while cleaning his weapon.

On Thursday, September 19, OPD responded to a home on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a woman dead with an apparent gunshot wound.

An investigation revealed that the victim and former deputy sheriff Leslie Boileau were in a relationship and lived together in the Ocala home.

According to OPD, Boileau allegedly shot the woman while cleaning his firearms. Boileau told police the shooting was accidental.

Boileau was immediately fired from his position at the Marion County Sheriff's Office, where he served as a deputy for eight years. He is charged with manslaughter and is being held without bail in the Marion County Jail.
