9 teenagers arrested for making threats at school

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Nine teens were arrested in September for over 30 different social media threats, false alarms and reporting terrorist threats against area schools.

Members of the Amarillo Police Department's Youth Unit, School Resource Officers, Amarillo ISD Police Department, Canyon ISD and other school districts investigated over 30 different threats.

Amarillo police said most of the reports were false, but some were intentionally posted on social media to cause panic in the Amarillo community and schools.

The students also made statements to elicit reactions and attract attention.

Amarillo Police say all threats against schools, students or staff are taken very seriously.

As a result, nine teenagers from several schools in the Amarillo area were arrested for terrorist threats and false alarms/reports.

APD thanks the public, students and school district staff for their assistance in the investigation and reporting threats against schools.
