Kung Fu fight between siblings cat and dog makes the internet laugh

TikTok is always full of entertainment and a pet video was recently compared to a kung fu movie.

The footage has been viewed nearly 800,000 times in three days (as of September 17) and shows an unlikely duo channeling their inner Jackie Chan.

The hilarious video, shared on an account dedicated to Max the cat and Sunny the rescued Maltese dog (@max_and_sunny), shows the pair playfully wrestling in the hallway, rolling from one end to the other. Their martial arts-like moves have been a hit online, garnering over 71,000 likes.

“I'm in, what happened then?” said one user, and another asked, “Who choreographed this?”

“The best kung fu movie I have ever seen!” joked a third commenter, and a fourth agreed: “[It’s] like a staged fight in a movie.”

Although cats and dogs are often considered arch enemies, videos like this one prove that they can get along. According to Catster, a North American monthly magazine, barking, chasing and wrestling are typical signs of play.

As you can see in the video, the animals appear relaxed and show no signs of aggression. If their fur stands on end or their ears are laid back, this indicates that playtime is over.

It is clear that the pets have a mutual understanding and both enjoy playing together, but if a dog starts growling or a cat starts hissing, they should be separated immediately.

The American Kennel Club says that some breed groups are more likely to get along with cats than others. Breeds in the Toy group, like Sunny, are known to be affectionate and sociable, and the Sporting group breeds, which are friendly and outgoing, tend to get along well with cats.

However, terriers, which are bred for hunting, and greyhounds, which are geared towards hunting, may have instincts that can make living with cats difficult. Herding dog breeds, which tend to herd anything that moves, may also annoy cats.

These are generalizations. With proper socialization, training, and introduction, most dogs can live peacefully with cats.

It is important to consider the individual personalities of the dog and cat and to ensure the cat has the ability to escape if necessary. Owners are advised to always supervise interactions until they are sure they can coexist peacefully and to consult with breeders about the suitability of a breed for a multi-pet household.

According to AKC, the following dogs are the perfect companions:

  • Beagles
  • Golden Retriever
  • Pugs
  • Bulldogs
  • Basset Hounds
