Southern Boone Middle School student arrested for terrorist threat

ASHLAND, Missouri (KMIZ)

A Southern Boone Middle School student was arrested Friday afternoon on suspicion of making terroristic threats, according to a social media post from Ashland police.

The police wrote in the past that they had “become aware of an Instagram account whose content was interpreted as threats and harassment towards some SBS students, some of them mentioned by name”.

This is the third teen arrested in the last seven days in connection with threatening behavior at the middle school. However, police say Friday's arrest is unrelated to arrests on Monday and Friday of last week. Monday's arrest resulted in classes being canceled on Tuesday.

“Today, September 20, 2024, at approximately 3:00 p.m., a juvenile suspect was located and taken into custody at Southern Boone Middle School. A charge of first-degree terroristic threatening has been requested. Juvenile criminal proceedings are governed by Missouri state law and the release of further details regarding the suspect's identity or status is prohibited,” the post reads. “We have no evidence that leads us to believe this threat is related to the previous incidents on September 13 or 16.”

The Southern Boone School District also confirmed the arrest in a letter on its website.
