TRAFFIC ALERT: Traffic jams begin even before Vice President Kamala Harris' visit | News

MADISON (WKOW) — Traffic is already congested on the Beltline and John Nolen Drive Friday as many people head to the Alliant Energy Center to watch Vice President Kamala Harris' visit to Madison.

The Dane County Sheriff's Office issued an alert before noon telling motorists there would be road closures and significant delays around the event site. The sheriff's office did not provide details on which roads would be closed.

If you are not going to the Harris rally, police recommend that you plan ahead and, if your schedule allows, go home early. Anyone going to the event must enter through the Olin Avenue or Rusk Avenue gates.

Madison police also sent out a notice informing people that John Nolen Drive will be “severely impacted” for evening commuters. Police are asking everyone to take an alternate route.

By 1:30 p.m., Wisconsin Department of Transportation Map 511 already showed significant delays on John Nolen Drive.

According to the Dane County Sheriff's Office, about 11,000 people are expected to attend the rally. Admission is required and the event is not open to the public.
