Mecklenburg County Sheriff's deputy is hit by a teenager while attending a funeral

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – A deputy with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office was involved in an accident while on duty Friday afternoon.

According to the sheriff's office, the accident occurred around 1 p.m. at the corner of Beatties Ford Road and Trinity Road.

The deputy was hit by another driver while accompanying a funeral service. After the accident, a paramedic took the deputy to the hospital.

“We are relieved that this accident was not more serious,” said Sheriff Garry McFadden. “Deputy Turner sustained some minor injuries, but thanks to the quick response of paramedics, she is now receiving excellent care. We look forward to welcoming Deputy Turner back with us once she has fully recovered.”

The sheriff's office said the driver was a minor and was charged with not having a license and failure to use hazard lights and sirens. The teen's mother was charged with inducing minors to commit crimes.

Two weeks ago, another deputy with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office was involved in an accident in Uptown Charlotte at the corner of West 12th and North Church Streets.
