Mater Dei (Calif.) has already passed its fair share of tests this season, but the Monarchs face another battle Friday night when they face St. Frances (Maryland) in a national high school football showdown.

The Monarchs remain atop the SBLive/SI Top 25 national high school football rankings, while St. Frances remains on the sidelines this week after climbing to No. 12 in the national rankings a few weeks ago.

The reigning national champions are off to another strong start, including wins over former No. 8 Corona Centennial (CA), former No. 2 Bishop Gorman (NV) and most recently Kahuku, the three-time defending Hawaii Open Division champion.

The Monarchs' defense dominated the away game in Hawaii, holding Kahuku to minus 10 yards rushing.

Four-star DL Tomuhini Topui was a nightmare for the opponent. The junior was able to put pressure on the offensive line all evening and crowned his outstanding performance with a 50-yard interception return that led to a touchdown.

The Panthers climbed to 12th place in the national rankings, but are now a risk after two tough losses in a row.

Their last two games are nothing to sneeze at, however, as they both suffered losses to other teams that are currently or early in the rankings – former No. 17 Orange Lutheran (CA) and current No. 4 Duncanville (Texas).
