Harris brings anti-abortion fight to Georgia after woman's death linked to heartbeat law reported – WSB-TV Channel 2

COBB COUNTY, Georgia – Vice President Kamala Harris returned to metro Atlanta on Friday to campaign on abortion, a crucial issue she believes Democrats can win on.

Richard Elliot from Channel 2 was at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, where the Vice President emphasized that abortion is a fundamental human right.

“One in three women in America lives with a Trump abortion ban. That includes Georgia and all southern states except Virginia,” Harris said.

The Vice President's visit came after reports emerged of the deaths of two women in the state of Georgia who died under the state's heartbeat abortion law.

Harris' campaign team quickly decided to expand into the Atlanta metropolitan area in response.

The Trump campaign countered with a statement, calling her comments “dangerous misinformation spread by Kamala Harris and the Democrats in Georgia.”

Harris believes that focusing on abortion and reproductive rights issues can influence key voters, especially in the northern metropolitan area, which includes East Cobb, North Fulton and Gwinnett counties.

She said abortion was a bipartisan issue.

“You don't have to give up your faith or your deeply held beliefs to believe that the government should not tell you what to do,” Harris said.

Josh McKoon, chairman of the Republican Party in the state of Georgia, criticized Harris for not addressing other important issues such as the economy and illegal immigration.

“She refuses to talk about the economy and explain what she would do differently than she has done over the last three and a half years,” McKoon said.

With a view to the upcoming election, Harris stressed the urgency of the situation.

“Just 46 days until what will probably be the most momentous election of our lives,” she said.

It was also mentioned that former President Donald Trump may visit Savannah next week and his running mate JD Vance will be in Macon next Thursday.
