MANITOWOC – Jose Resendiz-Gomez, a 41-year-old Manitowoc man, was sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty in U.S. District Court of possession of cocaine with intent to resell, possession of firearms as a convicted felon and illegal immigrant.

According to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice, Resendiz-Gomez was arrested during a traffic stop in August 2023. Previously, agents from the Manitowoc County Drug Task Force had organized controlled cocaine purchases from Resendiz-Gomez, who was “a convicted felon and Mexican national without legal residency in the United States.”

Following his arrest in August 2023, law enforcement determined that Resendiz-Gomez was returning from Illinois, where he had purchased 600 grams of cocaine for distribution in Manitowoc.
