A defendant in a murder trial asserted his right to an independent DNA test before D.C. Superior Court Judge Michael O'Keefe on September 20.

Ranje Reynolds, 27, is charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime for allegedly shooting 27-year-old Tarek Boothe in the 3200 block of M Street, NW, on Jan. 31, 2022.

During the status hearing, Cheryl Stein, Reynolds' defense attorney, told the court that the defendant intends to assert his right to an independent DNA test.

The parties are scheduled to meet again on November 20.
