Woman arrested for fatal hit-and-run in Yates County – Finger Lakes Daily News

8:00 p.m. Update:

A woman has been arrested in connection with Thursday's accident that killed a 1-year-old boy in Yates County.

The Yates County Sheriff's Office reports that through evidence collected at the scene and interviews, it was able to locate the car and driver suspected to be involved in the crash.

Sarah Olsen, 26, of Penn Yan, was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of an accident without notice and negligent homicide.

Olsen was arraigned in Yates County CAP Court and released on summons.

The fact that a defendant is accused of a crime constitutes merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Lunch update:

Yates County Sheriff's Deputy Brandon Jensen told Finger Lakes Daily News that the vehicle being sought is a dark-colored, possibly black GMC SUV, possibly an Acadia, with damage to the front and passenger side.

We have also learned that the victim is a one-year-old Mennonite boy. The identity of the victim is not being released at this time. The initial investigation appears to indicate that the child wandered away from responsible family members and ended up on the street unsupervised and unaccompanied.

Residents are asked to check their outdoor surveillance cameras between 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Thursday to help identify the vehicle and its driver.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Yates County Sheriff's Office at (315) 536-4438. All information will be treated confidentially.
