New York City man charged with murder of Hazlet, NJ taxi driver

FREEHOLD – A suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a Hazlet taxi driver last weekend was arrested in Brooklyn, Monmouth County District Attorney Raymond S. Santiago said Friday.

Gaetano S. Scannavino, 25, whose last known address was in Brooklyn, was arrested Thursday in the New York City borough by officers from the New York Police Department's 61st and 62nd precincts. Scannavino will be extradited to New Jersey, prosecutors said.

The body of 42-year-old Anthony Hill of Eatontown was found with “multiple gunshot wounds” next to a dumpster in the parking lot of the Holly Hill Motel on Route 36 in the West Keansburg section of Hazlet, Santiago said.
