On this cross Canadian Ragweed Tease

This story has been updated.

Do I know something you don't know? Do you know something I don't know? The truth is, even if I did know something, I wouldn't tell you. Because I never want to spoil a surprise, and the point here is to generate excitement and conversation.

I get it. You've seen Cross Canadian Ragweed's cryptic post on their website and social media, which appears to be their logo wrapped in red cloth or something. The website also says “2025.” It's the first sign of life from the band since their official breakup in 2010. And now you're on tenterhooks imagining a Cross Canadian Ragweed reunion, a tour, or the release of a new album, or something, or anything.

But we don't really know what's happening or what the future might hold. That's part of the fun. It could be something as simple as a reissue of the album with remastered recordings and maybe some bonus tracks. It could be a full reunion of the most legendary lineup with Cody Canada (lead guitar/vocals), Randy Ragsdale (drums) and Grady Cross (guitar) and Jeremy Plato (bass). But it's also probably wise for fans to stay calm and keep their expectations realistic.

Cody Canada is currently the frontman of the band Cody Canada and the Departed. Canada has also made it clear that Cross Canadian Ragweed will never get back together.

“I was really angry. It was foreseeable, we saw it coming.” Canada said this in an interview in 2020. “When you look at a band that breaks up, you can see the date they split up and go back and see it coming… When the split actually happened, it was in a heated argument. There was a lot of anger, and the next day I was a bit scared… Sixteen years is a long time… there will never be a reunion.”

Canada has since doubled down on these announcements. But you never know. Some gave the Turnpike Troubadours a 0% chance of returning. The Eagles had to name their 1994 album and reunion tour “Hell Freezes Over” after a Don Henley quote that said the band would never get back together.

The reason people are so excited that something might happen with Cross Canadian Ragweed is because the band was so influential in the red dirt movement and the country-rock intersection when it formed in 1994. It's now as much about nostalgia as it is about current cultural relevance. But the band certainly has a lot of loyal fans and has defined the country-rock intersection in the Texas/red dirt scene.

But what happens next with the band, we'll find out when they're ready. Enjoy these moments. Such surprises are what music is all about. Keep your expectations in check, but don't spoil the fun for yourself or anyone else. A sloppy rollout and a leaky ship have made some of the Turnpike Troubadours stuff less than ideal.

So stay calm and be patient. Everything will be revealed soon.
